Garden Connection & Outdoor Living in Malvern

Garden View Oaklands House extension design by Chris Gray Architect Cheltenham Gloucester

A brick extension to bring new life to this family home in Malvern. This refurbishment and extension project shows how sometimes a small addition to a home can dramatically transform the flow and quality of space.

The existing house was a modern development property on the outskirts of Malvern; brick built and originally designed with modest separate living, dining and kitchen spaces, all with an outlook to a North-facing garden.

Rear Extension Oaklands design by Chris Gray Architect Cheltenham Gloucester

A partial-width brick extension to the rear increases the size of the kitchen noticeably whilst still retaining a generous garden space. Corner-glazed sliding doors open-up views of the garden and create a seamless connection to the patio area outside.

A slim flat rooflight casts top light to the kitchen and dining areas, and a picture window off the living space provides cosy seating and practical hidden storage.

Kitchen Oaklands House extension design by Chris Gray Architect Cheltenham Gloucester

Natural light and views to the rear garden were lacking, and the brief called for a much more social and connected layout. The design needed to create a light and open space for the family and address the recent challenges of working from home.

This refurbishment and extension project shows how sometimes a small addition to a home can dramatically transform the flow and quality of space.
